The 42nd Irvine Annual juried art exhibition displays the work of artists all over California. This year featured one of Continuing Education’s own faculty, Marilu Morency! Marilu teaches embroidery art classes in the Continuing Education Active Adults program every semester. She showed her mastery of the craft through her incredible art piece, Public Solitude.
This is one of 80 pieces chosen from over 1,000 entries for the group show. The Irvine Annual includes paintings, sculptures, and mixed media like Marilu’s. She combines the use of embroidery, screen printing, and collage to bring the piece alive.
About Public Solitude, Marilu reflected how it, “portrays the dichotomy of being alone while in a public space begging the question of viewers, 'is the figure pictured lonely or simply alone?'”
The exhibit can be viewed until September 5th, 2026. Visit the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Heritage Community Park. The exhibits and parking are free! Don’t miss it!
