Earn an Associate Degree for Transfer in Biology

The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer prepares students to move into a curriculum at a four-year institution leading to a baccalaureate degree in Biology or similar majors. Please consult a counselor regarding specific course requirements for your transfer institution. Completion of the AST degree also provides guaranteed admission to the California State University (CSU) system with junior status, although not to a particular campus or major.

In particular, students will demonstrate a strong understanding of biological principles and processes, as well as the ability to apply scientific methods to analyze data and solve complex problems. They will also possess critical thinking skills, proficiency in laboratory techniques, and a solid foundation in areas such as genetics, ecology, and microbiology, preparing them for diverse careers in science, healthcare, and research. The Biology AS-T is a starting point for students who are preparing for careers in biological sciences, biomedical sciences, and related fields including but not limited to research, consulting and government work, where scientific and technical skills are in high demand.
