(SANTA ANA, Calif.) - It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of long-time Santa Ana College (SAC) Kinesiology & Athletics Equipment Coordinator Lawrence “Laurie” Abrahams.

“Laurie was a friend to many across campus and throughout the district. His humor, intelligence, and quick wit enriched our workplace and our lives, whether discussing sports or politics or sharing an interesting story from his life’s colorful experiences”, said SAC Associate Dean of Athletics Mary Hegarty.

“Laurie had a soft spot for our students, especially those that might be struggling. He could be counted on to listen, mentor, and check in with them long after their time at SAC”.

He joined the Santa Ana College family in 2010 and will be greatly missed.

Prior to his time at SAC, Laurie was a professional soccer player with 283 appearances and 142 goals over his 10 year career. He started in his home country of England with the Charlton Athletic Club in 1977 before making the move to the United States where he played for several teams from 1978-1986.

He also spent a year in Australia with the Melbourne Knights Football Club before returning to the U.S. to finish out his playing career with the Wichita Wings.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Laurie’s family and friends, especially his son Nathaniel, during this difficult time. His absence will be deeply felt.
