Compass Dance Company​​Amanda Kay White

Amanda Kay White is a founding/current member and rehearsal director of Orange County, California’s critically acclaimed dance company Backhausdance​. She is a proud alumna of Chapman University with a B.F.A. in Dance Performance and a B.A. in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Advertising. Amanda continued her education and graduated with a Master’s of Fine Arts in Choreography from Jacksonville University. Amanda is currently on faculty at Santa Ana College, Chapman University, Orange County School of the Arts, and South Coast Conservatory.

As a performer, Amanda has had the pleasure to work with Jennifer Backhaus, Rachel Erdos, Tommie Waheed-Evans, Pioneer Winter, Yin Yue, Ido Tadmor, Walter Matteini, and Dwight Rhoden. Her inventive choreographic works have been showcased at Highways Performance Space, Orange County Museum of Art, Pasadena Dance Festival, Oulu Dance Hack, Centro Negra, Chapman Touring Company, American College Dance Festival, and MixMatch Dance Festival.

In 2009, Amanda founded Compass Dance Company​, a pre-professional contemporary dance company for emerging artists ages 14 and up. By engaging, expressing, and innovating, Compass Dance Company reaches out to the community through dance.
