Somatic Practices in Dance

Somatics is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physcial perception and experience; a dancer's internal sensation. The SAC Dance Department offers unique somatic dance courses, based on the principles of Bartenieff Fundamentals and the Laban Movement Analysis System to improve all dance training with efficient movement patterning within the body. Somatic Practices in Dance also encourages and supports personal expression, meaning-making, and an integration of body and mind to expand a dancer's quality of performance.
