Ajay Orona is assistant professor of journalism and media studies at Santa Ana College. A magazine journalist, Ajay’s work has appeared in Alta Journal, Los Angeles Review of Books, GeekOut, Inside Mazda, Tread, and various automotive magazines. His feature, “The Grizzly Next Door,” about efforts to reintroduce brown bears to California, won first place in science reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists - Northern California, in 2023.
He earned a master’s degree from USC Annenberg’s School of Journalism in 2021 and was honored with an Outstanding Specialized Journalism (The Arts) Scholar Award. A community college graduate, he holds associate degrees in English and mathematics from Mt. San Antonio College.
Ajay’s passions within the fields are longform reporting, typography, website design, and marketing writing. He is currently planning to launch a boutique ad agency specializing in corporate blogging and content creation.
His pastimes include hiking near Mt. Baldy, boogie boarding, and eating Zankou Chicken. His favorite newsletter is 1440 because it’s named after the year in which the printing press was invented.
