Census day is approaching and your response is crucial to the future of your community. The deadline is September 30th, 2020. The amount of funding for local programs and infrastructure as well as accurate representation in Congress are determined by the census. Learn more below. 1. An accurate census count leads to funding for your public schools!
The data from the census determines the distribution of over $15 billion of Title I Aid to help students from low-income families. A more accurate count can positively impact over 24 million students in the United States.
2. Your information is confidential
By Federal law, the Census Bureau cannot share your personal information with government agencies. Government agencies can only use census data to view aggregate statistics. Your responses will never leave the census building.
3. The Census can bring more jobs to your community
Business executives use census data to identify communities where they want to build factories, offices, or open new stores. Businesses will look at the demographics of an area to determine the types of products and services provided.
4. A correct census leads to a more fair representation of your state
The results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives. Participate in the Census to help determine how many seats your state will get. The distribution of the Electoral College's 538 electors is also determined using data pulled from the census.
5. The census determines how much federal funding goes to each state
The state of California could earn about $1,950 per person counted in annual federal funding. This funding can be used to build schools, hospitals, fix roads and update building infrastructures.
