Dear SAC Family,
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Michael Kelcher, professor of Chemistry. He passed away while at home on Sunday afternoon of natural causes; I have no other details.
Mike began working at SAC as a part-time instructor in fall of 1993 and joined the Chemistry department as a full-time faculty member in 2007. He was a member of the Academic Senate, served on the SAC Planning and Budget Committee and this year agreed to serve on the Standard III Subcommittee for Accreditation. Mike was also the newest member serving on the FARSCCD Board.
Mike will be remembered for his depth of discipline knowledge, for his eager exploration of anything and everything with the power to boost academic success, but most of all for his love of students and learning. Colleagues lucky enough to see him at work saw a professor bring the mystery of science come to life before their very eyes. He also had a great sense of humor. Our esteemed and beloved colleague will be sorely missed.
I’ll provide more information about upcoming services as details become available. Those wishing to send a note of condolence or sympathy cards are welcome to send such to the Science and Math Division for a group mailing to the Kelcher family.
