Dear SAC Family...

The fall semester has moved so quickly. Before you know it, we'll be celebrating the holidays and gearing up for students to attend our winter intersession in January 2014 and the spring semester in February 2014. In between, SAC continues to improve and refine our campus, our facilities and our services to students.

At the Fall Convocation, I shared the video of a plane being built while in the air and that is exactly what SAC is doing. We are in the middle of our semester adjusting to a new academic calendar, adding classes, working on accreditation and dealing with all the detours and dust due to continued construction to make SAC a better place. Thank you for being dedicated to our students and providing them the best while "our plane" gets modernized.

Later this month, SAC will have an opportunity to showcase some of our improvements and network with the RSCCD Trustees on October 28 when their regular Board Meeting will be held here on campus. The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Spot (U-102 student lounge of the Johnson Campus Center), with tours of our campus and an informal reception for Board Members at 4:00 p.m.

As part of my continued effort to meet with classified staff, I have held three Take a Break with the President meetings this semester. The last one is scheduled for October 30 at 5:00 p.m. in S-215. RSVP if you plan to attend. These meetings have provided a unique dialogue whereby classified employees can express opinions, suggestions and inquiries about facilities, calendars and other non-bargaining related matters. I'm grateful for those that have participated and have appreciated the opportunity to meet with classified colleagues, who are the infrastructure to the services we provide our students.

Accreditation Update

The standard co-chairs have met and the teams are conducting due diligence for writing the draft self-evaluation report to be ready for review in December. I will provide an update to the campus on Friday, December 13 at 10:00 a.m. In the meantime, you can check out the latest accreditation news on the new SAC website.

Have you seen the gym? What about College Avenue and the entrance at 17th Street? These are all phases of the perimeter site improvements and Building G upgrades. Our facilities are looking great and the work will continue through our 100th anniversary. For more information on the status of construction projects, check out the weekly project updates link at the bottom of the web page.

This year's annual fund campaign welcomes 19 new payroll deduction members and 6 new President's Circle Members. To participate in this year's campaign and be eligible for one of two Microsoft Surface Tablets visit the Foundation webpage. You have till October 31 to be eligible for the drawing.

City of Santa Ana

The City of Santa Ana will welcome and swear in new City Manager, David Cavazos, on Monday, October 21 at the regular City Council Meeting.
