Free English Courses Offered Through Pilot Program “SAC Go”
As a community resource for more than 100 years, Santa Ana College is there for our community more than ever during this trying time. That’s why Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education has launched SAC Go, a pilot program offering free English as a Second Language through temporary remote instruction. The first series of six-week courses began April 20. A special website translated into multiple languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese, offers a simplified registration process to maximize community participation. First Cohort of President’s Scholars Selected
In March, the Santa Ana College Foundation proudly introduced the first cohort of students in the President’s Scholars Program. The program enables the college to identify exemplary students early in their educational paths to provide strategic financial, academic, and other support. By addressing the importance of mentorship and cultivating students’ personal and professional development, the President’s Scholar program helps better ensure their successful futures at SAC and beyond. “Raising the Game” Campaign Takes Gold at NCMPR Paragon Awards
The SAC Foundation was recently awarded a Gold 2019 Paragon Award from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) for its campaign booklet, “Raising the Game.” The national competition is the only one of its kind that honors excellence exclusively among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges. This year 1,963 entries from 261 colleges across the country were judged by more than 90 professionals from the marketing and public relations industry. We are thrilled that the Foundation’s efforts to raise funds and awareness on behalf of SAC students were recognized with this tremendous honor! |
SAC STANDS STRONG: CONFRONTS COVID-19 CHALLENGE |
College Leverages Temporary Remote Instruction During Outbreak
SAC has stood proudly as a pillar of this community for more than 100 years. While the pandemic rivals anything our institution has ever experienced, we remain strong, committed, and ready to serve our students and stakeholders, now and always.
Recent examples of this dedication include:
· Serving as a partner site for a drive-through emergency food assistance distribution program held on Saturday, April 11. The program was developed by the Power of One Foundation and Official No One Left Behind, in partnership with the Orange County Food Bank, Community Action Partnership of Orange County, the City of Santa Ana, and the college. All those in need of food assistance in Orange County were invited to attend. The event was covered by at least two local stations, CBS2 and ABC7, and approximately 4,300 boxes of food were distributed.
· Providing much-needed personal protective equipment in the form of three large boxes of gloves to the Orange County Health Care Agency on March 24. With the campus being closed to students, SAC's Student Health and Wellness Center was able to contribute this donation to help local healthcare workers. |
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT |
Rallying Civic Responsibility Through Campus Connections
Santa Ana College continues to prioritize civic engagement for our students. The campus served as a voting center for the March primary elections and provided students with information regarding voting eligibility, registration, and polling sites. Currently, college representatives serve on the Complete Count Committees for the County of Orange and the City of Santa Ana, promoting the importance of participating in the 2020 Census. SAC has distributed census communications (in both English and Spanish) through many channels, including social media, email, and the college website. As of April 12, Orange County had recorded a 55.1% response rate and continues to work to bring that number up.
