SAC Nursing Program Admission Process:
Prospective students are strongly advised to attend a Nursing Orientation given by the Counseling Department, which can be reached at
here.
To be eligible to apply for admission to the Nursing Program, you must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission and have graduated from high school (equivalent) or have earned a college/university degree. In addition, prospective students must complete the following steps:
- Complete SAC Nursing program prerequisites or equivalents: General Human Anatomy (Bio 239), Human Physiology (Bio 249), Microbiology (Bio 139 or 229), and Freshman Composition (English 101 or 101H).
- Science prerequisites must have been completed within the last seven years, prior to application. We will accept face-to-face/in-person or online theory courses. Lab courses must be face-to-face/in-person. If hybrid course was taken, the lab component must be face-to-face/in-person.
- All the prerequisites require a grade of “C" or higher, with science prerequisite courses having a combined GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Each prerequisite course can be repeated one time for a better grade.
- No penalty will be assessed for withdrawing from prerequisite courses.
- Pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) ATI TEAS version Seven with a 62% or higher on the first attempt, after documented remediation, or after one year from the previous attempt (certain HESI and PAX-RN results will be accepted-must have tested in all 4 required areas on the same testing date: math, English, reading, and science).
- SAC is a TEAS testing site option. The test is administered twice a year: in February and in August . Contact the Health Sciences/Nursing Office at negrete_elva@sac.edu to reserve a space. Space is limited (first come, first serve opportunities). All spots for 2024 have been filled. Reserving a spot for February 2025 will open November 1st, 2025.
- View the TEAS document for more detailed information, for First semester applicants.
- Print, complete, and submit appropriate application with all relevant materials attached. Applications will be available 2 months prior to the application dates.
- First Semester/Generic RN students submit the Nursing Multi-Criteria Admission application between February 1st - February 15th for fall admissions and between September 1st September 15th for spring admissions.
- Please read the entire application packet carefully and follow all steps to make sure you have completed current SAC Nursing Program's first semester multi-criteria application process thoroughly and accurately (the application requirements may have changed from previous semesters).
Requesting all pertinent copies of OFFICIAL transcripts:
As part of the application process, you will be required to submit copies of OFFICIAL transcripts along with the Multi-Criteria Admission application directly to the Nursing Department. If selected, you will be required to submit OFFICIAL transcripts directly to Admissions & Records department.
High School/GED and any pertinent Colleges/Universities attended must be included (if you have a college degree showing on your college transcripts, then high school/GED transcripts are not required).
If you have earned AP scores from The College Board or have foreign transcripts, copies of official scores/transcripts will be initially accepted but must be submitted if selected.
Note of Clarification:
Licensed Psychiatric Technicians must meet with the Program Director to determine if entry will be in Second or First semester. If to be advanced-placed into Second, submit the Prerequisite Verification Form, not the Multi-Criteria Admission Application.
See Advanced-Placement / LVN-RN Information.
Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) are eligible to apply to First or Third semester. LVNs will use the Prerequisite Verification Form.
See Advanced-Placement / LVN-RN Information.
Selection to the First Semester of the Nursing Program is through the Multi-Criteria admission process.
Proportionally, the students invited to enter First semester will be selected based on:
-
20% of available spots: Random selection of qualified applicants
-
75% of available spots: Highest points earned, based on the Multi-Criteria Grid. In the case of a tie in points, a lottery will be conducted. An additional 20 students will be selected as alternates.
-
5% of available spots: Re-entering students
Students who decline entry are required to re-apply for possible selection through the multi-criteria admission process.
Current Advanced Placement Entry Lists:
1st semester - 0 people on the list as of 07/11/2024.
The California Community College Chancellor’s Office, California Board of Registered Nursing, and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, have approved the SAC Nursing Program curriculum.
Students are required to have transportation to and from off-campus clinical sites.
**Please note** This is considered a full-time program. Students are advised to limit outside employment. Excessive work schedules combined with family and school commitments may contribute to being unsuccessful in the program.
