Sean Small

Sean Small came to Santa Ana College in 1997 after working as Master Electrician at the award winning Laguna Playhouse. He received his formal training at California State University Long Beach, achieving a degree in Theatre Design under the tutelage of Herb Camburn. Sean was accepted into the MFA programs at both Yale and Carnegie Mellon, but instead chose to continue his professional career. Sean has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. For 16 of those years, he has been a Professional Entertainment Designer, and has received numerous awards and accolades for his innovative designs. He has designed for such artists as Stephen Peck, Loretta Livingston, Mike Esperanza, and Jenny Backhaus. Sean continues to work on a wide range of projects including dance, theatre, corporate industrials, and houses of worship. Sean enjoys a close working relationship with several of the leading entertainment technology manufacturers, CEO's and product development teams. Sean is especially proud of his contributions to the Entertainment Lighting Technology program at SAC. In addition to his work as a staff member and adjunct faculty member, Sean is a resident scenic and lighting designer for the SAC Theatre Arts Department as well as the resident lighting designer for the SAC Dance Department.
