Student Activities Club Resource Manual

PREFACE

This manual is not meant to serve as a definitive text on participating or running clubs.  Instead, it is a series of suggestions and observations designed to make club participation much more enjoyable and hassle free.  Clubs are very unpredictable by nature.  One semester they are organized and run themselves whereas the next they could be struggling to maintain.

Being involved in a club should be a rewarding experience.  It should provide you with some of the most memorable experiences and relationship while at Santa Ana College.  The Student Activities Office is available to help you in any way you may need.  We look forward to working with you and sincerely appreciate your commitment and involvement at Santa Ana College.

Role of the Student Activities Office

The Student Activities Office is interested in the success of your organization.  They can perform a service for you much the same as the service that you perform for your organization.  They are more than willing to work with you to resolve internal problems, plan activities, train officers, or anything else that you feel you may need assistance with.

The best time to consult with the Student Activities Office is before a problem gets too far along.  While the Student Activities staff may not know all of the answers to you questions, they are the people most familiar with the policies and procedures relating to campus organizations and events.  Also, they have spent a great deal of time working with various student groups under a wide range of circumstances.

The Board of Trustees of the Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) has stipulated that all student-sponsored clubs must operate within the established regulations of the District (Board Policy 5400). As a student leader you are provided with many opportunities however as a student leader you must also assume certain responsibilities including compliance with college and district regulations, policies, and guidelines.  Failure by student clubs and organizations to comply with established regulations will result in corrective action. Violations are subject to the following types of actions:

a. Written Warning: a written reprimand for violation of district policies or campus regulations with a copy to the student club/organization and their advisor(s).  A written reprimand admonishes the student club/organization to refrain from any future infractions.

b. Loss of Privileges: this action will result in the loss of club privileges for a specified duration, ranging from one semester to one year.

c. Deactivation of Club Status: further violations will result in a referral for deactivation through the Inter-Club Council (ICC).

The staff will also welcome any information and observations you may have on the state of Student Activities at Santa Ana College.  They appreciate the information that students can give on the happenings in student groups.  Their experience has shown that communication with student leaders not only reduces the numbers and severity of uncomfortable situations, it also helps your organization to reach its full potential.
