PELL GRANT
Student Guide: Financial Aid from the U.S. Department of Education
Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid.
Generally, Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have
not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. For many students,
Pell Grants provide a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may
be added.
How much is a Pell Grant?
Award amounts depend on how much program
funding Congress provides. The Pell Grant award for the 2007-08
academic
year is $4,310. Your award amount will depend not only on your
financial need, but on your cost of attending school, whether you're a
full-time or part-time student, and whether you attend school for a full
academic year or less.
Note: You do not need to
be enrolled full-time to receive Pell Grant funds; part-time students may
still quality. In some cases, even students enrolled less than
half-time (less than 6 units) may still qualify for funds.
If I'm eligible, how will I get the
Pell Grant money?
Once you have completed all application
procedures with the Financial Aid Office, your Pell Grant eligibility will
be determined. You will receive an Award Letter indicating how much
financial aid you have been awarded, including Pell Grant.
