Training Site
All five Child Development
centers are training schools for human development students and
offer the position of Student Assistant as paid training
experience.
Here are some important things to know about the Student
Assistant position:

All student assistants must
be enrolled in six (6) units
of college credit classes or a four (4) hour class in the
continuing education program through RSCCD.

Student Assistants work a maximum of 30 hours per week.

There are three levels of
Student Assistants based on education and experience.

Observations
All five Child Development centers are laboratory schools and
students RSCCD and other local colleges and universities are
welcome to observe any of our sites.
Here are a few things to know before you come to observe:

Center hours are different for each site but all centers are
open Monday through Friday. Summer and intersession
schedules may vary. Please call the center to schedule
an appointment.

It is best to leave your personal items locked in your car
or better yet at home. Please only carry with you,
your observation assignment, paper, pencil or a pen and a
clipboard.

Upon entering the center please check in with the office
staff. They will have you sign-in in the
Observers/Visitors book and put on an Observer’s Badge.
(Please be sure to sign out and return badge before you
leave).

Master Teachers and Teachers wear a specific color apron.
Please ask the office staff to clarify this. In each
classroom there will also be Student Assistants, Interns and
volunteers.
In addition to the center staff you may find parents, Human
Development students or community members volunteering in
the classrooms For your observation, it is important that
you observe the Master Teacher or Teacher.

Keep in mind that the children’s safety is our primary
responsibility and it is important for you to be sensitive
in choosing the appropriate time to ask questions of staff.
