The Nealley Library is committed to providing an environment that is
conducive to study as well as welcoming to all users. To this end,
the Library has an obligation to ensure that students, faculty, and
other library users find a place for quiet concentration and study
within this facility. The Library is a teaching space where librarians
must talk to assist users in finding and understanding the information
resources that the library provides. The technology provided by the
library, from computers and printers to media viewers and
photocopiers, inevitably also produces noise.
We try to find a balance among a variety of uses of library
resources—individual study needs, research consultations with
reference librarians, library business transactions at other service
desks, quiet small group studying in open areas—while providing an
environment that is conducive to study.
-
No more than four students per
study table.
-
Disturbances or behaviors which
interfere with the normal use of the library by others is not
acceptable.
-
Examples of inappropriate
behavior include rowdiness, prolonged and/or loud conversations,
intrusive/loud laughter, use of radios, CD and other audio players
with a volume loud enough to disturb others, and noisy group study
in an open area.
-
Anyone refusing to adhere to this
policy will be asked to leave the library.
If you wish to report excessive noise, contact a Reference Librarian
or other library staff member at the nearest service desk. Thank you
for your cooperation in making the Nealley Library a better place to
study and conduct research.
