The role of and duties performed by a library technician varies from library to library. Those employed in larger libraries may find themselves working alongside a librarian in a more specialized environment overseeing the daily operations of a library department and performing specialized duties such as acquisitions, cataloguing, periodicals, interlibrary loans, public services, children's services, government documents, special collections, etc… Library technicians working in smaller libraries may handle a wide range of duties and may, depending on the situation, be the person to run many or all of the operations of a library.
