Learning Communities II (LCII)
What is "The Learning Communities II Program" (LCII)?
Learning Communities II afford innovative
approaches to traditional course offerings by creating linked classes in
which students and instructors explore subjects, themes, and academic
skills and competencies that are common to both classes. The
Learning Communities II program was modeled after the Freshman Experience
Program following the success of that program.
Who participates in The Learning
Communities II Program?
Students who are other than first-time
freshmen at SAC* are eligible to join this special program that is
designed to increase student success. The Learning Community II Program is
based on linked classes, which means that students share many of the same
teachers and experiences, in effect creating an additional support network
via shared classes and experiences. There is a high level of involvement
between and among students. Counselors are very involved, as well. They
participate in their students’ classes, keeping abreast of their students’
progress. Students receive a high level of attention from counselors and
their other teachers, which helps the students to feel involved and to
strive harder to reach their academic goals.
Note:
First-time freshman students who are
entering SAC are encouraged to participate in The Freshman Experience Program.
Students are required to enroll in all classes within the Learning Communities II cohort. To enroll in this
program, students must register in person. For further
information, call the Counseling Center at (714) 564-6100 or John Acuna at
