Placement Testing in Language & Math

Language and Math Testing Procedure

NOTE:  All testing listed below will be in the Testing Center, located on the second floor of the Library, room L-221.

All students must have a picture I. D. to test. Appointments are required for CTEP & TELD AND MATH.   Please arrive 30 minutes early to check in for CTEP and TELD and 20 minutes early for Math.   All students will need to schedule an appointment for orientation and advisement after testing in order to receive test results.

MATH:  The Math Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) has four different levels.  Choose the level you feel you are best prepared to take.  Sample questions are available for each test. You may wish to use MyMathTest to help you prepare for the placement test; more information can be found at: Preparing for the Math Placement Tests.

MATH test scores are only valid for one year If you took the math test more than one year prior to the date you register and you did not take a math class during that year, you will need to retest.

CTEP:  For native speakers of English or others who have studied English and/or ESL in school for at least seven years or who use English frequently on a daily basis.

CTEP test scores are only valid for two years.
If you took the English placement test more than two years prior to the date you register and you did not take an English class during those years, you will need to retest.

TELD:  For students whose native language is not English and who have not studied English and/or ESL in school for at least seven years or who do not use English frequently on a daily basis.

TELD test scores are only valid for two years.   If you took the ESL placement test more than two years prior to the date you register and you did not take an ESL class during those years, you will need to retest.

To schedule an appointment:

Call the SANTA ANA COLLEGE TESTING CENTER
 (714) 564-6147.  All new students must apply to SAC and have received a DATATEL student ID number before scheduling a testing appointment.  It generally takes 3 to 4 days from date of application to receive a DATATEL student ID number via e-mail.
