Santa
Ana College has an excellent faculty of pharmacists and pharmacy
technicians, with many years of experience in the practice of pharmacy
and the field of education.
In Spring 2007, the
Pharmacy Technology program was awarded the annual
Santa Ana College
Occupational Educational Excellence Award.

Gail B. Askew,
PharmD, FCSHP
Professor of Pharmacy Technology
(Department Chair 1972-2008) |
Dr.
Gail Askew received her pharmacy degree at the
University of Southern California. In addition to teaching in
the Pharmacy Technology Department, Dr. Askew has worked as a
pharmacist in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has
also served
on the Stakeholders Policy Council for the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board (PTCB) and as a site surveyor for ASHP
accreditation teams. As Department Chair and Program Director
from 1972 to 2008, her leadership has created our program to be
among the best in Southern California. Dr. Askew is a member of the
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), California
Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP), the California
Pharmacists Association (CPhA), and the Pharmacy Technician
Educators Council (PTEC). She co-authored a pharmacy clerk text,
entitled Assisting in the Pharmacy, and wrote the Pharmacy
Calculations Workbook used at Santa Ana College.
In July 2006, Dr. Askew was
presented with the Roy Kemp award as the Pharmacy Technician
Educator of the Year at the PTEC annual meeting in
Pittsburgh, PA. In 2003, Dr. Askew won a Professional
Achievement Award at Santa Ana College's Profiles in Excellence
program. Dr. Askew is also a CSHP Practitioner Fellow and was named 2001
Pharmacist of the Year by the
Orange County Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OCSHP).

Dr. KC Huynh. Dr.
Huynh graduated
from the USC School of Pharmacy. She is a Board Certified Pharmacist
Specialist who has many years of experience working as a pharmacy
technician and pharmacist in different fields of pharmacy.
She also served as an Adjunct Clinical Professor for the Pharmacy
Residency and Pharmacy Intern program at the VA Medical Center in Long

Deborah
Rocha, CPhT
Lab Coordinator

As lab
coordinator, Debbie Rocha
is responsible for the Pharmacy Technology Skills Lab. The
Skills Lab provides individualized opportunities for students to
develop proficiency in lab techniques and pharmacy computer
applications. Mrs. Rocha has an exceptional background in
pharmacy technician practice, with many years of experience in both
the acute care and home health care / home infusion fields.

Dr. Hieu Nguyen
|
Dr. Hieu Nguyen is a former student of
Santa Ana College's Pharmacy Technology program. Dr. Nguyen is
a PharmD graduate of Purdue University's School of Pharmacy.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Nguyen works in both retail and
long-term care pharmacy services. |

Dr. Justin Phi |
Dr. Justin Phi is a former student of the SAC Pharmacy Technology
program from 1997 to 2000. Accepted by UMKC, UC San Diego, Western,
and USC Schools of Pharmacy, he elected to attend USC and is a
recent PharmD graduate. Prior to this, he graduated from UC Irvine
with a BS in Biology and worked for the County of Orange. Besides
his post at SAC, Dr. Phi is employed in community pharmacy practice.
Dr. Phi enjoys travel, tennis, surfing, and zoological research.

Jody Jacobson
Wedret
|
Evening
professor Jody Jacobson Wedret has taught at Santa Ana College for
several years while working as a senior pharmacist and assistant
clinical professor of family medicine at the UCI Medical Center. The
author of numerous articles as well as a national lecturer, Mrs.
Wedret recently co-edited her first book titled " Building a
Successful Collaborative Pharmacy Practice" and is currently authoring
a technician textbook due out by the end of the year. Mrs. Wedret
enjoys travel, theater and the visual arts and is currently a docent
at the Getty Center. |

STAFF |
The Pharmacy Technology Department staff includes
instructional assistants who provide support for faculty and students,
particularly in the Pharmacy Operations, Inpatient Pharmacy Services, and Sterile Products lab courses
- and in Skills Lab. |
