Prerequisite: English 101, Biology 149 or Biology 239, Biology 249, Biology 139 or 229.

Emphasizes development of the registered nurse including role, communication, nursing process, legal and ethical concepts, dimensional analysis, test taking strategies, the Santa Ana College Conceptual Framework for Nursing, nutrition and medical terminology. Completion required prior to entry into Nursing-Registered 102/102L.

Nursing-Registered 101 Nursing Process: Non-Critical Adults

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in Nursing-Registered 101L and completion of admission requirement in Nursing-Registered Nursing Program. (See Catalog.)

Nursing-registered 101L Nursing Process: Non-Critical Adults

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in Nursing-Registered 101  and completion of admission requirement in Nursing-Registered Nursing Program. (See catalog.)

Clinical experience emphasizing nursing process for adults and geriatric patients of diverse cultures with non-critical biological system needs. Focuses on psychomotor skills and application. Applies concepts to multicultural groups in acute and other community based settings. Grade: CR/NCR only.

Nursing-Registered 103 Pharmacological Concepts of Nursing 

Units: 2
Class hours: 32 lecture total.
Prerequisite: English 101, Biology 149 or Biology 239, Biology 249, Biology 139 or 229.

Introduction to pharmacology, dosage calculations, drug classifications and application of nursing process to drug administration. Completion required prior to entry into Nursing-Registered 102/102L.

Nursing-Registered 144 Clinical Nursing Skills Laboratory

Units: 0.5
Class hours: 16 laboratory
Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Registered Nursing Program, E.M.T. or any N.C.E. courses, or RN re-entry.
Advisory reading level: 4 

Supervised use of nursing skills lab to assist the student in development of clinical competency and mastery of psychomotor skills. May be repeated. Open entry/open exit. Grade: CR/NCR only.

Nursing-Registered 102 Nursing Process: Women, Parents, Children

Units: 4
Class hours: 64 lecture total.
Prerequisite: Nursing-Registered 101, 101L, 103, 112, and concurrent enrollment in 102L.

Emphasizes nursing process of women, parents and children of diverse cultures with biological and psychosocial system needs. Examines women's health issues, the childbearing family, care of the child and adolescent, and community-based nursing concepts. Focuses on growth and development across the life phases, with emphasis on family centered care. Principles of I.V. therapy will also be emphasized.

Prerequisite: Nursing-Registered 101, 101L, 103, 112; concurrent enrollment in Nursing-Registered 102.

Application of the nursing process in acute care and community- based settings. Focus in on the application of the biological and psychosocial theoretical concepts in clinical practice. Bridge course for the entering L.V.N. or transfer student with an emphasis on RN role development. Application of the nursing process within the Santa Ana Conceptual Framework.
