After prerequisites are completed, contact the
Graduation Specialist at the Veterans Office, SAC (564-6050) for a
prerequisite verification appointment. Students who are completing their
last prerequisite class need to contact the Graduation Specialist during
that semester's week of final exams for an appointment time.
Students who have completed prerequisites are placed on the entry list at
this time. It is the student’s responsibility to
contact the Graduation Specialist/Prerequisite Verification Officer when a change of address or phone number has occurred.
If mail is returned due to wrong address, student's name will be removed
from the entry list.
Admission into the program will be based on an entry list: Half of the
students are accepted for entry into the Nursing Program on a “first to
complete all of the requirements, first admitted” basis. This is
determined by the date of receipt of the prerequisite verification form.
The other half of the students are accepted based on a priority
numerical ranking of grades in the prerequisite courses. The ranking
system is A=10 points, B=5 points, and C=1 point. Students will be
placed on the numerical ranking list from highest to lowest points. A
student who successfully completes all requirements, but is not accepted
because of limited class size, will be accepted as soon as space becomes
available.

Students on the entry list will be notified of when to
enroll in N-RN 112, Beginning Nursing Concepts and N-RN 103, Pharmacological
Concepts for Nursing.

Evidence of a physical examination by a M.D., Physician Assistant, or Nurse
Practitioner will be required prior to entry in the program. Physical exam
forms are distributed to incoming students for completion. The completed
physical exam form must be returned to the Nursing Department. Evidence of
a physical exam and immunizations must be submitted verifying the
applicant’s health and physical ability to perform the academic and clinical
requirements of an RN student. Examinations must have been performed within
4 months prior to beginning the Nursing Program. All new nursing students
are required to have Hepatitis B vaccination. Students with incomplete
physical information will not be allowed into the clinical setting because
of mandatory hospital and program requirements for current physical, CPR,
and malpractice insurance. A background check, at the student’s cost, is
required of all students upon acceptance in to the program. If a student
does not continue in the program, a new background check must be provided
upon re-entry. All background checks must be “cleared” by the Program
Director
Students who are a “NO SHOW” for the first day of class will be dropped
and replaced by an alternate.
Students who turn down entry (other than an alternate) will go to the
end of the entry list.
