RN Refresher

The RN Refresher course at Santa Ana College is an independent study course offered through the Nursing Skills Lab. In order to participate, students must:

 
  • Be licensed as an RN to practice nursing in the United States ( license may be active or inactive)
  • Apply to become a student at Santa Ana College - applications may be completed online or in-person
  • Participate in a tour and orientation of the course. Orientation sessions for Spring 2010 will occur on Wednesdays, at 1:00pm in R-203 beginning February 10th  through April 21st, 2010. Please RSVP at 714/564-6829.
  • Register for ticket number 31112 - Clinical Nursing Skills Laboratory (0.5 units). Registration can occur the same day as the orientation to the course. Once registered, RN Refresher students may then access all of the instructional media in the Skills Lab which includes over 300 videos / DVD's / and a 32 station computer lab. Modules are available to guide students through the instructional media. The Skills Lab is open approximately 35 hours per week and RN Refresher students can access the lab anytime during open hours. Calendars will be published monthly. Registration for this course may occur anytime during the first 10 weeks of the Semester.
  • Participate in a psychomotor skills practice session. Two sessions will be available for review and practice of basic nursing psychomotor skills ( foley catheter, NG tube, IV insertion, suctioning, trach care, injections, etc.) Simulation scenarios will also be included with the skills practice sessions. Dates / Times for the Spring  2010 semester are Thursday, April 15th from 2pm - 6pm and Thursday, May 6th from 2pm - 6pm.
  • Cost: Registration fee ( $13.00), health fee ( $17.00) and parking ( $30.00 for semester or $2.00 per day).
  • A letter will be generated at the end of the student's course of study, detailing instructional media reviewed and participation in the skills review session. This letter may then be presented to a potential employer. No CEU's are awarded for this course per BRN regulation.
