Emergency
Medical Technician
All
on-campus EMT classes are taught by the Nursing Department and
can be found in the college class schedule under Emergency
Medical Technician 100 (basic course), 111 (recertification
course) or 098 (skills lab.)
Fire Technology students are required to successfully complete a
National Registry EMT course, pass the NREMT EMT Basic exam and
obtain California EMT certification through a local EMSA prior
to entering the academy. When there are EMT
recertification classes scheduled within one semester, they are
listed on our information line at 714-538-0386. *(Basic
Fire Academy graduates should also contact their Fire Academy
EMT Instructor.)
General
Information for Fire EMT:
The
Basic (or Primary) EMT class is approximately 128 hours long.
Successful completion of the class permits the student to take
the NREMT EMT Basic exam. Then the successful student must take
documentation of passing the NREMT EMT Basic exam to the local
EMSA to complete certification.
The certifying exam for Basic EMT is
the National Registry exam.

for On Campus Nursing EMT:
All
on campus EMT classes are listed in the college’s class
schedule. They are certified by the Orange County Emergency
Medical Services Agency with classes leading to National
Registry EMT Basic testing eligibility. Specific criteria for
certification and fees are available from the Nursing/EMT
Department above, or the Orange County EMS Agency at
714-834-3500.
