Santa Ana College: Degrees and Certificates for 2006-2007
Teaching
Approximately 50 colleges and universities in California
provide teacher credential programs. These programs are entered after the
completion of a BA degree.
Students planning to teach in the elementary and secondary
schools may begin preparation at Rancho Santiago Community College District.
The college offers programs of study which fulfill lower division requirements
for most majors currently acceptable for teacher credential programs.
Completion of the general education courses as outlined in the
catalog for transfer to CSU or UC system is recommended for all students
planning to transfer to a four-year institution. Counseling 114 (same as Human
Development 114) has been designed to give more detailed information about the
credential process.
Suggested Elementary Teaching Emphasis:
Liberal Studies and Child Development are the two most common
University majors of students who are planning to enter Teacher Education
programs for an elementary teaching credential.
At Rancho Santiago Community
College District these relevant majors are described under Liberal Arts and the
Human Development School-Age Option.
Suggested Secondary Teaching Emphasis:
Teaching at the secondary level most often requires a
single subject credential. Students major in the subject they plan to teach.

information about the relevant majors.
