Pharmacy Technology Degree (SAC 0555) and Certificate (SAC 0595)
The associate degree and certificate curriculum trains
technicians to perform services under the supervision of a registered
pharmacist. The pharmacy technician assists pharmacists in the packaging and
distribution of medication, including sterile solutions, for patients in acute
care, ambulatory care, extended care, and home care settings.
This program of study is accredited with commendation by the
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The curriculum, which is
based on the Model Curriculum for Pharmacy Technician Training, prepares
students for the national certification examination given by the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board (PTCB). The curriculum also provides the academic training
required for students to register as pharmacy technicians with the California
State Board of Pharmacy under Method B.

Students must complete each required course with a grade
of “C” or better (Externship with a grade of “CR”) to qualify for the associate
degree or the certificate.
