Communications
Journalism Option Degree
The associate in arts degree curriculum in journalism prepares
students for entry-level jobs in the communications field as a reporter or
editor. Completion of the degree prepares students to move into a four-year
program leading to a baccalaureate degree and possibly to careers in such
fields as newspaper or magazine reporting and design, public relations,
advertising, and radio and television writing and production. Course content
provides skills in writing news stories and opinion pieces, conducting
interviews, developing feature articles, designing publications layouts,
typesetting by computers, and producing television/news productions.

Journalism Option Certificate (SAC 1096)
The certificate program in journalism combines a theoretical
knowledge of the field with practical applications leading to an entry-level
position with a newspaper, magazine, public relations or advertising agency,
and radio or television news department. Students may choose either a print or
broadcast journalism option.

Speech Communication Option Degree (SAC 0318)
The associate degree curriculum in speech communication
provides training for communicating and dealing with people. Completion of the
associate in arts degree prepares students to move into a curriculum at a
four-year institution leading to a baccalaureate degree, and then into careers
in the field of business, industry, government, or education in such areas as
teaching, public speaking, announcing and public relations.
