Student Affiliates ensure
that student voices are represented in the partnership. In their role as
advisors to the program, they help shape and direct the work of the Santa Ana
Partnership at large by evaluating projects from a student perspective and
submitting formal recommendations to the partnership administration. In
addition, Student Affiliates serve as representatives of their respective
campuses at partnership meetings and events and communicate the mission and
activities of the partnership to their fellow students.
Student Affiliates from Santa Ana College, UC Irvine and CSU Fullerton, are
identified and selected from a pool of qualified candidates to serve a
nine-month term. Throughout the term Student Affiliates meet monthly to discuss
progress and plan activities and volunteer at least 10 hours a week with
partnership programs in schools and on their campus. Among other activities,
this year the group plans to serve as Workshop Moderators at the 2006 GEAR UP
California Conference, provide tutoring and mentoring to SAUSD students, and
conduct research on Parental Engagement and Latina/o Graduate Students.
