| GUIDELINES ON HOW MANY UNITS TO TAKE
WHAT IS A UNIT?
A unit is the amount of credit you earn for a course. This varies from course to course.
College work is measured in terms of the "credit unit". In a one-unit lecture course a college unit is normally defined as one hour of lecture and two hours of homework per week for a semester-length course. In a laboratory course, three hours in the classroom per week for the semester with no outside work equals one unit of work.
HOW MANY UNITS SHOULD YOU TAKE?
In deciding how many units to take each semester, it is important that you plan time for attending classes, reading, studying, completing homework, and working.
For every hour of classroom time, allow two hours of outside homework time:
