Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa is the international community college honor society.  It is loosely affiliated with Phi Beta Kappa, the most prestigious collegiate honor society in the United States.  Phi Theta kappa stresses four Hallmarks of excellence: scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.  Members have access to numerous scholarships nationwide, including almost $30 million in scholarships reserved by transfer institutions for Phi Theta Kappans exclusively.  Phi Theta Kappans receive transcript notation and a special diploma seal, as well as special recognition at graduation.

Santa Ana College has the oldest chapter (Alpha Beta) of Phi Theta Kappa in the state of California.  With approximately 200 members, SAC's chapter is strong, active, and distinguished.  In 1997 and again 1998 our chapter produced two Phi-Theta Kappa Academic All-American scholars at the state level of competition.  Recipients of these honors received medallions and scholarships awarded in Sacramento by the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges and the California Community College League.  For service projects, our members have served Thanksgiving dinners to the homeless at Casa Garcia Restaurant in Garden Grove, participated in can drives for the hungry in Santa Ana, visited and distributed Valentines at a nursing home for the elderly in Orange, and organized Christmas gift-giving projects to benefit poor children in Santa Ana.

Eligibility:  Santa Ana College students who have completed at least 12 transferable units at Santa Ana College or Santiago Canyon College, have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 in those 12 units as well as cumulatively, have adhered to the RSCCD's Student Code of Conduct, and are citizens in good standing of their country, are invited to join.  Both part-time and full-time students are eligible.

Phi Theta Kappa is a major addition to Santa Ana College's portfolio of honor societies, which  includes Alpha Gamma Sigma and various discipline-specific organizations.
