All on-campus EMT classes can be found in the catalog under Emergency Medical Technician 101 (basic course), 105 (skills lab), or 111 (recertification course).

General Information for Fire EMT:

Fire Technology students are required to successfully complete a National Registry EMT course, pass the NREMT Basic exam and obtain California EMT certifcation through a local Emergency Medical Services Authority prior to entering the academy.

The Basic (or Primary) EMT class is approximately 148 hours long. Successful completion of the class permits the student to take the NREMT EMT Basic exam. Then the successful student must take documentation of passing the NREMT EMT Basic exam to the local EMSA to complete certification.

The certifying exam for California EMT is the National Registry exam.
